World Horror Con
May. 13th, 2006 09:06 pmSpent the day at World Horror Con, or at least about 11.15-4.15. I would've preferred to be gaming, but Chris had been running a Skotos booth for a couple of days (with some help) and asked me to pitch in.
The con was, unfortunately, entirely underwhelming. I don't know if they didn't market, choose a bad venue, or some combination thereof. The two reports I heard claimed 400 preregs and 700 attendees, which are pretty low numbers in-and-of themselves, but I'm not even convinced those numbers were true. In particular, the dealers' room was entirely dead. It didn't help that they put it down in the basement.
At one point this afternoon things started to pick up and I though maybe things were looking better ... until I realized that the dealers had just gotten so bored that they were now roaming the room.
Christopher has done Thursday and Friday expecting each time that things would pick up the next day. When Saturday had as poor of attendence as Friday (or possibly worse) we decided to pack up. We left a few hours before the dealers' room closed, and won't be headed back tomorrow. Ah well.
I think we made some good contacts, but we could have done most of that today without a booth.
Overall a busy day. I got up today and went in to San Francisco for the con. When I got home Kim & I went shopping for groceries. After dinner I then went and worked on the front yard for about an hour, because our next-door neighbor is having an open house tomorrow.
I can now relax. Tomorrow's Sunday & I'm taking Monday off.
