I keep posting articles over at Gone Gaming which I think are going to be controversial, and then which get little comment. Here's the latest:

The Problem with Luck

Maybe we just don't get enough traffic at GG? I dunno.

Had a good "Special K" night at EndGame last night: Australia, Marco Polo Expedition, and Beowulf. A second-place finish in Australia (by one point), somewhere in the middle in MPE and a clear and resounding win in Beowulf.

The win at Beowulf emphasizes my statement in that GG article that it's about understanding the odds, not who gets the most lucky. This was my 4th game of Beowulf, and I felt like I played it very well, and that I won as a result.

Meanwhile, that was finally my second game of Marco Polo Expedition, and I still think it's a fine game and I don't know why people didn't like it. Light? Yes. Simple set collection? Not exactly, because you're constantly planning ahead and further ahead, bluffing and pressing your luck. There's a tremondous lot going on!

I'm going to be over at EndGame again on Saturday, health permitting. (I've been getting sick a lot lately, even with my trying to start avoiding the foods that I know make me sick.) David G. is enthusiastic about wanting to play Russian Rails, while I told Bob that I'd love to play Taj Mahal, now that I finally figured out the game from the online version.

And tonight's going to be regular 'ole review gaming, with special guest Kalle.
