UPS Hijinx

So I looked at UPS records this morning and discovered that my package that didn't show up on Friday again hadn't been checked out for delivery today.

This is a package with some review copies of new Days of Wonder games, by the by, if you wonder why I'm actually hot about getting it soon.

Anyway, I looked at the UPS records, and I thought, "Maybe it actually went out today and didn't get scanned," but a few hours later I decided to call anyway, under the theory that if it's instead lost I'd prefer them to get their asses moving, in the hope of receiving a delivery late today.

So I called the main UPS line, and after bouncing around their useless menus for a while hit some combination of of "0*##*0##" that got me to an operator. I told her my tracking number, and there was a long pause as she looked over the records which showed it sitting in the local warehouse since Thursday night and she said, "I'm not sure where that is, so I'm going to send a message over to the local UPS hub." She confirmed my shipping address and took my phone number

An hour or two later the local UPS called to let me know that my package had successfully arrived in Florida. They said it had been sent from New York, and they weren't really sure why they'd been involved at all. National UPS had clearly given local UPS the wrong tracking number.

So I gave them the right one, and the new rep looked over the info, puzzled, and then said, "I think that should be out for delivery." (That's what I thought too, on Friday.) Then she said she had another computer outside, and that'd tell her for sure, and she'd go check.

A few more minutes go by, and she returns to let me know her outside computer is down, so she can't actually figure out where the package is.

Ah, UPS.

They've been very helpful and responsive the whole time, and UPS usually gets their packages dead on time, so I can't really be upset. But I can't believe how they're having problems at every point figuring out where this package is.

In any case, they're now calling the driver to discover if he has it in his van. If he does, then all this calling was for nought, but like I said I wanted to get them started on the process rather than waiting another day, since the records still showed the package not out for delivery. And, if he doesn't then the fun begins.
