Even through adversity, life goes on.

Yesterday was a holiday, but I worked. This is typical. We don't really have holidays at Skotos, because the games go 24x7. The last few months when Kimberly was busier I actually took holidays off to have more time with her, but today was back to the old routine.

As a compromise, when I work on a holiday I try and do something fun, which lately tends to mean programming with obvious results. Yesterday I rewrote the news/updates feature for RPGnet. It's now got a better admin panel which allows for 2 weeks' worth of news to be posted at once, it now saves to a database rather than flat files, and it's now got an RSS feed as well, at http://www.rpg.net/index.rss (or, if you prefer, [livejournal.com profile] rpgnet_news. (It was actually a bottom-up rewrite, it just looks somewhat similar to the old one on the front page.)

And with that I'm on the verge of figuring out how to transition columns for RPGnet, since that's the last major element that's greatly deserving of modernization, RSS feeds, and all the rest.

Mixed results for Operation: Front Yard. The herbicide I sprayed over our fine weeds was supposed to wilt-and-yellow in a day and kill in one to two weeks. Things didn't look very wilted yesterday, but now I'm thinking things might be going yellow. Perhaps I'm just hallucinating. We'll see how things go.

And if this didn't work, we'll get a serious herbicide that we spray on with a garden hose (with our brand new hose which we picked up on Sunday).

In the meantime mock strawberry seeds have been ordered. I hope this all works out over the next few months and our front yard stops looking like prairie.

I did start writing up Lovecraft Country #2 last Wednesday, but I'm stumbling over it a little bit, mainly because I'd never expected to write more. I have a story blocked out, but it's just 10 pages long. I'm considering writing two ten-pages stories, ala the old horror comics, but I'm not sure how elegant that is.

Actually, if I bookend it all with Seth's diary it could work out.

Anywho, my goal at this point is to slowly introduce a number of different characters into the comic to provide more interesting interactions, and also give more grist for stories. Oh, and maybe to have a few red shirts around too.

As I wrote last week, art is going to be the real issue.

I have some games planned for this week. I'd already been planning for a long game of Conquest of the Empire at EndGame tomorrow, and that turns out to work well. I should have people over on Thursday too, I suppose. I currently have zero enthusiasm for running an RPG on Saturday.
