Stormbringer #9
Aug. 28th, 2005 09:46 pmRan my ninth Stormbringer adventure yesterday afternoon.
To be honest, I phoned it in a bit. I've been in GenCon recovery mode for the last few days (including taking Thursday & Friday off) so I didn't feel like doing a whole bunch of prep. I had notes on the finale of the adventure that the players had got into during the previous week's run, and I decided to leave it at that. There were a number of late arrivals, I finally started the game at about 2.30p and ran until 5p, quite short.
The center of this adventure was the unearthing of an ancient pirate ship, which contained artifacts of balance, law, and chaos, and which had been used to stabilize the balance of the Island of the Purple Towns for centuries. Now, the ritual had broken down, and people from all the allegiances each had their own purpose for the ship.
I kinda took a chance here, because the party is a bit divided, and there was every chance they would fracture over the ship. In the end, however, they took a tact which (as ever) surprised me. They split the boat up.
The Golden Sails of Donblas had been stolen before the players' arrival, but the players kinda sorta offered to help the lawful party get it back. The chaotic hull of the Flying Fish was given to the chaotic group, while the players took the mast of the balance.
And have since erected it as the centerpiece of their bar.
Yep.
There are many possible new threads rising out of this decision, but for now the campaign is at a momentary lacuna, with the players returned to their bar after a series of adventures that began in session #3 (run on April 30, apparently, one day before life went to hell-in-a-handbasket, and thus about a million years ago).
I'm not entirely sure where to go next, though the one player-driven plot I have is the quest for those stolen Sails, stolen by Dave. P's character's uncle. (Yeah, I'm a jerk about that sort of thing;).) I'll begin anew with #10 in two weeks, or else suggest a wargame as a week's break if we're low on players ... I've got an ancient Elric! wargame which I haven't played in over a decade.
