EndGaming Continues
Jun. 23rd, 2005 05:17 pmThough I haven't been writing about it, I have continued EndGaming most every week. I haven't always been staying as late as I used to, because of earlier bedtimes, but I've still been getting a couple of games in every Wednesday.
Things have been tiring, as could be guessed over the last two months, and thus I've been staying nearer to the people I'm particularly comfortable with at EndGame. Eric V., Krishna, Mike, Alex, Patrick, and more recently Brody have all been common gaming folks. It's allowed for very relaxing games, which is what I'm looking for right now.
Eric V. has been bringing out some new games lately, and unfortunately we've had more than our share of losers. Last night was _The Caravans of Ahldarahd_ which featured tedious auctions, uneven gameplay, and a fairly broken endgame. Three weeks before that was _Dry Gulch_ which looked like it started out as a Catan-like design that grew like a cancer until it collapsed under its own boring weight. Of course other weeks this month brought _Santiago_ (OK), _Louis XIV_ (interesting), and _Shadows Over Camelot_ (great).
I shake my head looking at my games played stats over the last few months. 14 thus far this month, compared to 16 last month, 35 in April, and 48 in March. Ah well. Busy times.
And I really need to get some reviews out too. I've been doing decently at reviewing review copies (though I do have a backlog), but haven't gotten around to reviewing some of the more interesting designs that have come out this year, like the aforementioned LXIV, _Australia_, and _In the Shadow of the Emperor_. Of course many require at least one more play ...
Tonight is normal review gaming night, and _Santiago_ is hitting the table. So at least that will be up next week.
