Feb. 21st, 2004 03:29 pmFor those of you who haven't seen the news, the thus-far incompetent Governor of California has ordered a halt to the same-sex marriages in San Francisco:
Arnie Terminates Equal Rights
He comes across as a fascist too in his demands, saying that the marriages are "an imminent risk to civil order". I think my favorite statement by Arnie is: "[I] talked about the need for the rule of law, but I see in San Francisco that courts are dropping the ball."
So, you're for the rule of law, as long as you agree with the law that's being ruled, eh? I guess you can live with that type of hypocrisy when you're a millionaire superstar who's abused his celebrity status to trick the people of California into electing him into their highest office.
In any case, so much for Arnie as a social liberal, as he tried to sell himself. But we already knew that from his deep cuts into education, health care, and other social programs, didn't we?
I continue to be amazed at how many people don't realize that this is a civil rights movement, no different from the civil rights movement of the 1960s, and I also continue to be amazed at how many people don't realize that they're standing on the wrong side of the issue, that they're aligning themselves with the same side of bigotry that was bastioned by the Ku Klux Klan in the 1950s and slave owners in the 1860s, and that when the history books are written a hundred years hence, they're going to be the ones damned and shamed for their actions.
