Sometime last week I finished reading Children of Dune. It was overall an enjoyable, if slow, book, but in no way as amazing as Herbert's first two Dune novels. In Herbert's earlier novels, we had human characters with human flaws dealing with inhuman powers, but herethat humanity seems to have been stripped away, and we're thus that much more removed from all the characters in the book.

Little more to say, though I do expect to continue reading the series at some point in the future.

This is one of the pieces I was working on a couple of months ago:

It's an overview of the culture and religion of elves in the gameworld of Glorantha.

In honor of Banned Books Week I picked The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon off my to-be-read shelf last week. It's the story of a girl who gets lost in the woods, what finds her there, and the lesson that she learns.

It was an enthralling read, as King usually is, and the suspense pulled me right through the work. On the other hand it wasn't too terribly innovative or surprising. I doubt it'll leave much impression a year down the road.

I'd have to guess that the book was hard to write, because it's almost entirely the tale of a solitaire character on their own (much like Gerald's Game), with almost no character interaction or dialogue. Still, King pulls it off.

And that pretty much bares my shelf of unread King (actually, I have two novellas left in one of his collections). It must be about time to buy a few more from Moe's, for next time I need some light reading.
