Arrival in St. Louis
May. 9th, 2003 08:15 amArrived safely in Missouri last night. The trip was hellacious, as is usually the case. K. wasn't too happy being around people all day. I was sick, on and off, for much of the trip -- which is always so much fun on an airplane.
I'm still shocked by the discover that airlines largely aren't serving meals any more, as a cost-cutting measure. We arrived at the SJ airport at about 1:30 and left St. Louis airport at about 9:30; if we hadn't had the time grab food at our layover in Arizona, we wouldn't have to survive 8 hours on drinks & peanuts. (OK & the copious foodstuffs we jammed into our backpacks, which is to say we were good little boyscouts & doesn't remove the culpabilityfor from the airlines).
The only reason I'm particularly out here is because it sounded important to my dad. I don't really believe in this whole funeral/ceremony thing. I've been making my own peace through my writing.
It feels good to be writing in a paper journal today (though I'll probably copy it to electronic later). The feel of the ink smoothly sliding across the paper is very different from typing into a computer.
Looks like K.'s about ready to head out for a bagel before we head out to the service at Grandma's church ...
