Quickly, Robin, To The Blogosphere!

I recently realized that I can now type the phrase blogosphere and mean it in all seriousness.

Not so for the spoken word.

"You fiend! I'll never let you carry out your devious plan!"

"Ah, but you had not counted on this, you fool!"

"Oh no, not the blogosphere!"

It sounds like something out 1970s pulp, no question about it.

Amusingly a good book I recently read called Iron Sunrise also tried its best to use the terminology seriously, via the phrase "war blogger", a new-fangled next-generation journalist.

Look, there's the signpost up ahead!

You are now entering ...

The blogosphere

Whoever came up with the term "blogosphere" should be seriously kicked.

Bad etymologist!

No insect!

We should come up with a better word for "the journals published on the World Wide Web". But I can't actually think of any.

Charlie Stross didn't invent the word "warblogger"; it came into general use in the early days of the Iraq invasion. (Possibly even earlier.)
